A decade has passed since the initial release of Apple's wearable device, the Apple Watch, in April 2015. With such a significant anniversary approaching, speculation is growing about a noteworthy 10th-anniversary update that might be released in 2024 or 2025.
Apple debuted the "iPhone X" in 2017 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, so the company may have similar intentions for the Apple Watch.
Design
The Apple Watch will undergo a significant revamp in time for its 10th anniversary, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. With a smaller case, Apple wants to make the Apple Watch even thinner than it is currently.
Bands
According to Gurman, Apple is developing new methods for bands to connect to the Apple Watch. Apple is investigating a magnetic attachment solution that would free up the area currently occupied by the cuts for the band attachment points.
The case might get smaller if the band cutouts were eliminated since more internal parts would have room to fit within.
It's possible that an Apple Watch with a new band attachment technology won't work with older bands. Since the Apple Watch was introduced in 2015, Apple has made sure that subsequent versions are still compatible with current bands.
Display
According to speculations, Apple is developing microLED display technology for the Apple Watch, and a microLED watch is predicted to debut in 2025. It would make sense for the Apple Watch X to be the first watch with an upgraded display as that is exactly when Apple plans to release the Apple Watch X.
MicroLED Because Apple is testing a 2.1-inch diagonal display, Apple Watch rumors have claimed that it is a feature being developed for the larger Apple Watch Ultra. However, there may be numerous sizes or the Apple Watch X may be a larger watch with a redesigned case design and slimmer bezels. For instance, according to one expert, Apple is developing Apple Watch models with 1.89 and 2.04-inch displays for 2024.
Health Features
There aren't any speculations concerning new health features for the Apple Watch X, but the company is working on some significant innovations that may be finished in time.
One such feature that Apple has been working on is blood pressure monitoring; according to 2022 rumors, it would be ready for a 2025 release. It isn't too far-fetched to think that Apple is close to being ready to deploy this technology as there are currently wrist-worn blood pressure monitoring devices available, including one from Samsung. The Apple Watch would be able to measure blood pressure from the wrist using infrared light rather than requiring the user to wear a blood pressure cuff.
Release
According to Gurman, it is still unclear whether Apple will introduce the next watch in 2024 or 2025. Apple could choose between the April 2015 release date or the September 2014 unveiling date for the first Apple Watch anniversary.
The Apple Watch Series 9 will be released in 2023, therefore a Series 10 or "X" would be more appropriate for 2024 rather than 2025. However, the X designation is now just conjecture.
